According to Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, Xiaohongshu has been fined RMB 35,000 for violating Article 24(9) of the “Regulations for the Administration of Online Publishing Services”.
The aforementioned provision states that online publications shall not contain content that harms social morality or excellent cultural traditions of the nation.
It is worth noting that in January last year, a news about “Xiaohongshu fined for violating the law on protecting minors” became a hot topic on Weibo.
At that time, it was reported that Xingyin Information Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. had been penalized for RMB 300,000 for failing to immediately stop the transmission of information containing harmful content to minors, such as not removing, blocking, or disconnecting the relevant links.
The penalty was imposed by Shanghai Huangpu District Administration of Culture and Tourism.
In response to the fine of RMB 300,000 for failing to dispose of harmful information in a timely manner, Xiaohongshu subsequently stated that the penalty was due to the issue of underage information audit omissions mentioned in the CCTV report in December 2021.
Xiaohongshu will continue to enhance its ability to identify harmful information and improve platform governance capabilities. Users can report harmful information through the platform’s reporting channel, and Xiaohongshu will give priority to dealing with such reports.
