The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) recently issued a statement saying that, in order to curb the issue of scam calls, the use of “Private Number” will be prohibited in the coming days!
Currently, there are telecommunications providers that allow users to hide their own numbers when making calls, and the recipients of these calls will see “Private Number” instead of the actual phone number or caller’s name.
While this service can provide privacy protection for callers, it has been exploited by malicious individuals as a tool for scam calls, making it difficult to trace the culprits behind the scams.
In response to this, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has stated that by no later than June 30, 2023, all major telecommunications providers will be required to cease offering this service! Going forward, Private Numbers should no longer be seen.
