As many ad-blockers are being blocked by YouTube, forcing users to disable their ad-blockers to continue watching videos on the platform, a new and unconventional solution has emerged. Instead of trying to block ads, some users have come up with a different approach: speed-up the playback of advertisements.
This has led to the introduction of a new browser extension called “fadblock.” Unlike traditional ad-blockers, fadblock doesn’t directly block ads. Instead, it speeds up the playback of advertisements. Whether it’s a 10-second, 30-second, or 1-minute ad, fadblock can accelerate it to play in just 50 milliseconds, allowing users to quickly get through the ad and watch their videos.
In terms of the user experience, this extension works similarly to existing ad-blockers, with the key difference being that ads are still played, but at lightning speed. From YouTube’s perspective, users have technically viewed the ads, allowing the platform to generate ad revenue. This also benefits content creators who can earn revenue from these ads, creating a win-win situation.
This ad accelerator extension is currently available for download on the Chrome Extension Store and is compatible with all browsers built on the Chrome engine, including Microsoft Edge, Opera, Brave, and more. There’s even a version available for Firefox.
As for advertisers, their response to this new development is likely to be mixed…
