Many Citibank users now already started installing UOB TMRW app, in preparation for the transition from Citibank to UOB! However, have you noticed that the UOB TMRW app scan your phones without your permission?!
According to netizens’ sharing on the Lowyat forum, the UOB TMRW app actually has the ability to scan what apps are installed on users’ phones.
If it encounters some third-party apps, UOB TMRW will force users to delete those apps, otherwise they will not be able to use the UOB TMRW app!
This seemingly harmless measure actually poses certain privacy risks! First of all, it can be understandable for a banking app to detect whether the phone is rooted. But scanning the phone to see what apps are installed and forcing users to uninstall those apps in order to run the UOB TMRW app raises concerns about privacy infringement.
After all, what apps are installed on a user’s phone is not directly related to UOB. Moreover, if users want to continue using those apps, do they need to purchase an additional phone just to install the UOB TMRW app?
Currently, if users have installed these apps but do not want to uninstall them yet still want to use the UOB TMRW app, the only option is to restrict the UOB TMRW app within SecureFolder to limit the scope of detection by the UOB TMRW app!
However, in this case, is the issue with the third-party apps or is the UOB TMRW app infringing on users’ privacy?
